Meet the Five Guys Games Judges From Prime Video’s ‘On the Line’

Since the inception of the Five Guys Games in 2013, our training team has been a part of the judging of every penalty.

Since the inception of the Five Guys Games in 2013, our training team has been a part of the judging of every penalty – every piece of torn cheese, potato that went flying or condiment that never made it back to its station.

We’re talking seconds that ultimately would cost competitors in their race to be among the eight finalists in the games, which are held every other year. Every Five Guys store employee, from crew member to general manager, is eligible to compete. This list gets narrowed down, according to times submitted. And the judges are Five Guys trainers, Amy Crytzer and Joe Koch.

⏱️ Meet the Judges: Amy Crytzer & Joe Koch

Crytzer has served Five Guys for the last 18 years in training, operations and marketing. Koch helps develop curriculum and manages Five Guys University; he’s been with the company for over 13 years.

🍔 What Are the Five Guys Games?

The Five Guys Games began as an idea by the Murrell family to reward hardworking store crew members. The competition has evolved into a global phenomenon among employees, who compete for speed, skill and accuracy in three events: the cheese stack race, dressing/QC race, and potato race. The grand prize: $100,000.

On October 16, 2026, Five Guys, in collaboration with Full Day Productions, a Words + Pictures company, and Lost Tribe Creative, released a five-episode docuseries about the games entitled “On the Line: The World Burger Games” on Prime Video.

📌 At a Glance

  • Grand prize: $100,000

Crytzer says her first games event took place in 2013.

“I remember the excitement of all the competitors and audience,” she said. “You could feel the electricity in the room. My favorite part of the games has been meeting team members from across the globe and seeing their Five Guys passion.”

🧀 Training Secrets & the Judges’ Favorite Moments

The judges have observed that finalists will try just about anything to train.

Some wear weighted vests while practicing cheese stacking at home. They’ll use decks of cards. Others visit multiple Five Guys locations to cut additional potatoes and stack cheese.

“Their dedication is incredible,” Koch said. “My favorite moment was when brothers, Jackson and Jose, faced each other in the finals in 2022. They said they didn’t care who won the matchup, as long as their family won. That moment really captured what the Five Guys Games are all about for me.”

Crytzer recalls a 2017 challenger, Laura, who was the Games’ first female competitor to win the whole thing and who also was four months pregnant at the time.

Crytzer and Koch take judging very seriously. The last thing they want is to cost someone $100,000.

They also want docuseries viewers to know how much Five Guys celebrates its crew.

“I hope viewers see that Five Guys is about more than just making great food,” Koch said. “There’s a lot of passion behind what we do, and we have a lot of fun along the way celebrating the team members who make it all possible.”
